He's a cat. I lied, he's a shapeshifter! In my world, shapeshifters who can shift into multiple forms at will have a big setback: amnesia! If one stays shapeshifted too long, they will lose memories of themselves. This happened to Maezui, as he forgot everything about himself (including his original name, species, and gender) and reverted to feral behavior. When he regained his mind (not memory) he agreed to a name given to him and decided his new base form would be that of a male cat (which he woke up as).

Something I have always wondered about shape shifters is what is their original shape? Regardless if they get amnesia or not do they even know?

@AzpbEagleHunter: Depends on the mythos/media. A lot of shapeshifters either gain the power later in life (werebeasts, Animorphs) or are born with it but are born into a definite base form (can't think of anything off the top of my head). The only example I think of off the top of my head about a being without a definite base form is the Boggart from Harry Potter. I do not believe that creature has a base form, or if it does, it cannot be seen.

In my little world, that applies to the deities of the world, but they all have forms they prefer to stay in (despite not truly having a base form).

@Pokemontrainergigi: the boggart was actually what I was thinking about when I wrote that comment

(XD The auto correct on my iPad changed 'boggart" to 'bog fart's")
